Behind the Scenes

Hey there, it’s Clement! A few coaching clients recently asked how to keep their teams aligned when priorities keep shifting. And boy, are things shifting these days...

Maybe there’s a surprise reorg. Maybe a new exec shows up with fresh ideas. Maybe the market changes faster than expected.

One approach I’ve found helpful is using change as a trigger to reset as a group.

Don’t just reorder the sequence of tickets. Go back to your team’s core objectives. Remind folks what still matters. Clarity often comes from reaffirming what hasn’t changed.

For example, if your company shifts direction, try pausing sprint planning for a quick reset. Use prompts like:

  • What are we focused on?
  • Why now?
  • What’s on hold?

Even 30 minutes of structured conversation can bring the team back into alignment.

And if a new leader joins, set aside time with your product trio or cross-functional leads. Agree on what success looks like for the next few months. Spell out what’s still unclear, and name the bets you're deferring. That kind of alignment pays off fast, especially when things are fluid.

If your team’s feeling unsettled, don’t wait for perfect clarity from the top. A few clear questions and a grounded discussion can make the difference between drifting and moving forward with focus.

Hopefully my advice here is helpful for keeping you and your team grounded!

With love,
Clement
